In the heart of our country stands the Old State Capitol, a reconstruction of Illinois’ statehouse from 1840 to 1876. During the twentieth century’s civil rights movement, its restorers faithfully recreated the building in which John Jones and Frances Gage worked to expand the meaning of freedom and Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous “House Divided” speech.
We invite you to see and experience the Old State Capitol by taking a 30-minute self-guided walk through the site. Staff will be on hand to answer your questions as you view the building. Entry is at scheduled times only; currently scheduled entry times are 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. daily.
Reservations are required due to limited due to capacity and can be made on this page. If you need assistance making your reservation online, please call us at 217-785-9363 or email dnr.historicspringfield@illinois.gov
